Letter to the President
01 May 2019
Atty. Rodrigo Roa Duterte
President of the Republic of the Philippines
Office of the President
Malacanang Palace, Manila
Philippines
Attention:          Mayor, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte
Subject:            Tropical Forest Environmental Ecosystem
Dear President,
Good Day and Peace be with you!
I am Ronald Valledor Gomeseria, an expatriate OFW working here in Qatar/Dubai based office as Professional Utilities and Building Services Engineer (PE, PME, PEng – India, Qatar, UK, Philippines) on the infrastructure and building-built environment by profession, a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), Environment Advocates, practitioner, and a DENRM/MENRM UP Graduate, Alumni, and Student; and hereof, I want to reflect and appeal for the preservation and protection of our Tropical Forest within the Philippine Environmental Ecosystem. And with our motivation as part of environmental advocacy, the world is full of hypocrisy, and we all know that, however, our life is too short but sustaining a sustainable environment for the sake of the next generation is my dream for the country as you are and for the common good of every Filipino people who are relying on you, Sir/Pres Duterte.
The National Greening Program (NGP), which has been launched by the previous Aquino administration during his presidential term whereas the program is aiming to reduce poverty, promote food security, environmental stability, biodiversity conservation, enhance climate change mitigation and adaptation. I would say, and I have no objection to the program that was launched in 2011, which is one of the unique projects ever have in the country in the preservation of the forest ecosystem. Conversely, the program had been suspected biased due to many factors and inadequate of detailed fundamental analysis, full of molested graft and corruption happening in the stint of the program during the Aquino administration. Moreover, the goal of the program has to have the survival rates of the planted trees, however, in general, the analysis says that was failed to obtain with the 100% goal or even reducing the rate of poverty, promoting food security, environmental stability and conserving biodiversity in valuing the environmental forest ecosystem as well as the ecological biodiversity.
This letter of intent is requesting to continue the program with more aggressive and emphasis for the benefit of the Filipino people today and the future, which will give more diversity and to preserve the NGP goals. And with your political will, I assure you of your willingness to maintain a strict policy in sustaining a sustainable Tropical Forest Environmental Ecosystem in the country and for the rest of the world with greening activities.  Additionally, with sustainable agriculture enabling the Filipino people, which is to produce healthful food without compromising the future generations as well as ensuring the agricultural lands with hopes and remain productive goals. Hence, this will not be wasted but to preserve against climate change through adaptation and mitigation principles for the Environmental Preservation Protection of Public Health, Sustaining Vibrant Communities, and Upholding Animal Welfare.
And the world is facing climate change and the Philippines; my country is vulnerable to this kind of phenomenon facing the Pacific Region. And this regard, I would like to suggest that through your leadership initiative and with the governing bodies has to adopt the Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) for the upland agricultural resources. About sustainably increases productivity, enhances resilience through adaptation, reduces and removes greenhouse gases (GHGs) through mitigation where possible, as well as enhances the achievement of food security and development goals. Thereby, the principal objective of CSA is to have food security and the development of the three interlinked pillars (productivity, adaptation, and mitigation) in achieving goals. Thus, ensuring agricultural farming will remain productive and healthy for the coming generations in meeting their needs in securing the welfare of the upland community in the future age for the country.
Lastly, with the RA 8371 or the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act of 1997 in the preservation of their rights to ancestral domains, ancestral lands, justice, and human rights, and cultural integrity in a sustainable community in the production of the Philippine socio-economic development shall be implemented accordingly. And with the strong leadership like you, which we are looking for, has to be maintained with a man of political will from the government to the Filipinos; and thus, initiative shared.
With all the above, I am delighted and aspiring that will make this happens to the soonest possible. So that the Filipino people will have something in their lives in securing a sustainable community and valuing the Tropical Forest Environmental Ecosystem into a sustainable aspect and productive for the next generation, which will empower them with good governance, and no graft and corruption activities ever happening to result for a great nation and with pride as an OFW.
Thank you so much, and take care of your health as we pray it always. We LOVE you, Mayor!
Sincerely yours,
Ronald Valledor Gomeseria
